Hemispheric cooperation for competitive, secure, sustainable and inclusive ports in the Americas.

Port Promotion and Private Sector Cooperation

Promoting the Ports of the Americas and Private Sector Cooperation are one of the four main objectives of the Inter-American Committee for Ports (CIP).

The CIP considers working with the private sector vital for the development of a vibrant port sector. We believe that the role of the State is to facilitate the involvement of the private sector as a partner in development through tax and/or incentive policies. The Private Sector is, after all, the main innovator and Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP) have proved to be an effective instrument for successful port development projects. Therefore, the S/CIP places enormous value on private sector participation and proudly counts over 40 private sector and/or international organization/NGOs join the Committee as Associate Members.

Significantly, the CIP Maritime Award of the Americas includes important participation from the Private Sector.
