The Government of Barbados, through Barbados Port Inc., is honoured to assume the Chairmanship of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on Sustainable Port Management and Environmental Protection for the 2026–2029 period.
Our focus will be on advancing practical collaboration among CIP member states, supporting resilient and future-driven port operations, and strengthening the region’s shared commitment to sustainable maritime development, in accordance with the 2026-2029 Action Plan.
Modern port management must remain vigilant and adaptable in the face of climate change, geopolitical shifts, emerging national priorities, and evolving regulatory frameworks. Across CIP member states, port operations are also exposed to numerous hazards that constantly test resilience, continuity, and environmental safeguards.
This TAG therefore carries a significant responsibility: to support green port operations, strengthen environmental stewardship, and explore new tools for monitoring and safeguarding marine spaces. We will seek to champion solution-driven exchanges that harness smart technology, improve energy performance across the logistics ecosystem, align strategic policy, and anchor environmental stewardship in robust data.
Through collective regional leadership, practical collaboration, digital innovation, and a shared green ports mission, this TAG is well placed to help shape sustainable maritime operations that support environmental protection and economic growth across the Americas.

The Republic of Peru, as a Member State of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States (OAS), upon assuming as Vice Chair of Sustainable Port Management and Environmental Protection for the 2026–2029 period, and in close coordination with the Chair held by Barbados, reaffirms its firm commitment to building a more sustainable, resilient, secure, and innovative regional port system.
Within this framework, we will promote cooperation among the Member States, the exchange of knowledge and experiences, as well as the adoption of best practices that strengthen environmental port management and contribute to the sustainable economic development of the Americas.
Likewise, we will promote the incorporation of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, as a strategic tool to optimize port operations, strengthen environmental monitoring and management, improve the security and efficiency of the logistics chain, and facilitate data- and evidence-based decision-making.
We recognize that innovation, digital transformation, decarbonization, and the energy transition are fundamental pillars for addressing the challenges of climate change and advancing toward smart, competitive, and inclusive ports. Through this Chair role, Peru will work to promote a regional agenda that advances environmental protection, generating tangible benefits for communities and sustainable trade.
Our objective is to contribute to the development of smart and green ports capable of responding to the challenges of climate change, generating benefits for trade, communities, and future generations.
