Port Incentive Program using RightShip’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Rating

Emission Reduction Incentives

Driving Cleaner Air through Financial Incentives

Given the global nature of shipping, a co-ordinated effort is required across the supply chain to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from shipping. Pioneering ports worldwide are currently implementing a variety of initiatives to reduce emissions from shipping and encourage more environmentally friendly vessels to the region: acting local, whilst driving global change.

Global non-profit, Carbon War Room and maritime risk experts, RightShip are providing a common platform for Port Incentive Programs. The A to G Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) Rating – available free of charge on www.shippingefficiency.org is an easy-to-use tool containing information on over 70,000 existing vessels.

This rating applies the IMO’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) methodology to existing fleet data. Vessels are then ranked using a standard A to G rating, with A being the most efficient and G the least. The rating process is undertaken by comparing a ship’s theoretical CO2 emissions to peer vessels of a similar size and type.
