CIP in Other Events
The CIP Secretariat frequently participates as a Speaker in many high-level port events and conferences such as the AAPA Latin American Annual Meeting, COCATRAM events, the Congreso Maritimo Portuiario of Guatemala, IAPH meetings, NAMEPA, SLOM Annual meetings, USCG workshops, WISTA, and many others.
In addition to participating as a speaker in several events, the Secretariat also contributes to professional development courses through lectures and presentations, either in person or virtually.
The 1st Congress on Port Security and Protection organized by the Honduras National Commission of Port Security and Protection (CNPP), event was held on August 20 - 22, 2024, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The event brought together 80 participants from local as well as regional national port and maritime authorities, private ports and terminal operators, ports, maritime firms, academia, and government representatives from different sector-related entities to address issues such as digitalization, supply-chain security, port infrastructure modernization, cyber security, AI in ports, and capacity building, among others.

The iPORT Conference "Intelligent Port Expansion & Modernization" event was held on July 17 &18, 2024, in Lima, Perú.
The event brought together 150 participants from national port and maritime authorities, private ports and terminal operators, ports, maritime firms, academia, and government representatives from different sector-related entities to address issues such as digitalization, supply-chain management, port infrastructure modernization, and regional collaboration, among others.

The 27th Annual Meeting of the Port Management Association of the Caribbean event was held on June 26 - 28, 2024, in Paramaribo, Suriname.
The event brought together 135 delegates from national port and maritime authorities, ports, terminal, maritime firms, international organizations, development banks, and non-profits, as well as academia from the Caribbean region to address issues such as trade facilitation, supply-chain resilience, port security, decarbonization in the shipping industry, and disaster preparedness and emergency, among others.

The 35th Anniversary International Conference of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) event was held on June 17, 2024, in Valleta, Malta.
The event brought together 130 participants from international port and maritime authorities, IMO entities, international organizations, ports, maritime firms, financing institutions, academia, and non-profits to address issues such as trade facilitation, decarbonization, supply-chain resilience, port and maritime security, digital transformation, and legislative reform, among others.

The Global Supply Chain Forum was held from May 21-24, 2024, in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Government of Barbados joined forces to organize this event that brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts from around the world to discuss and address the challenges and opportunities in global supply chain management.

The Caribbean Shipping Executives’ Conference event was held on May 20 & 21, 2024, in Miami, USA.
The event brought together 130 participants from international port and maritime authorities, IMO entities, international organizations, ports, maritime firms, financing institutions, academia, and non-profits to address issues such as trade facilitation, decarbonization, supply-chain resilience, port and maritime security, digital transformation, and legislative reform, among others.

The 2024 Port of the Future Conference was held from April 2-4, 2024, in Houston, USA.
Organized by the University of Houston, the Conference was a dynamic event, focused on creating and revitalizing the United States’ ports, infrastructure, technology and processes across the maritime, air, land, and cyber domains.

The 6th Meeting of Energy Ministers of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) was held on March 14 &15, 2024, in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
This high-level gathering focused on discussing, exchanging ideas, and forming concrete commitments to further the transition to clean, sustainable, and renewable energy in the Americas.

Held in Athens, Greece, the WMU-GOI BUGWRIGHT2 Forum, part of the European Union's Horizon 2020 (H2020)-funded BUGWRIGHT2 project, aimed at addressing the strengths, weaknesses, obstacles, and prospects stemming from implementing technology and/or digitalization within the maritime and port sectors.
Mona Swoboda, Program Manager of the CIP Secretariat was invited to participate as speaker on the panel “Global North v. Global South: Bridging the Digital Divide”.
Presented and disseminated with all attendees an overview of the CIP project “Establishment of a Barbados Port Community System”, as well as other regional digitalization trends, including the Maritime Single Window in several CIP-OAS Member States.
The 1st Binational Forum on Sustainable Maritime Transport and Ports in the Three Californias was held on February 14 & 15, 2024, in La Paz, Baja California.
Organized the Institute of the Americas, the convening consisted of a series of roundtable discussions and deep dives centered around key maritime sustainability issues—with the objective of promoting knowledge sharing and cross-sectoral dialogue around standards and regulations, scientific and technological advances, and garnering support for private sector commitments.

The 20th Ibero-American Course on Engineering, Operations and Environmental Management was held from December 14, 2023 – March 22, 2024, in Santander, Spain.
Organized by the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ports of the State of Spain, the Course has been providing specialized port training for almost two decades to the Ibero-American port logistic community.

The 53rd Annual General Assembly of the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) was held on October 23 & 24, 2023, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
The conference was hosted by the Shipping Association of Trinidad and Tobago and included topics such as green shipping corridors, disaster preparedness and emergency response in Caribbean ports, digital transformation, cruise shipping, supply chain challenges, among others.

The Regional Conference & 6 th Annual General Meeting of the Women in Maritime Association Caribbean (WiMAC) was held on October 3-5, 2023, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The conference was convened in collaboration with the Maritime Authority of Jamaica with the support of the International Maritime Organization under the theme Navigating Horizons: Mobilizing Stronger Networks for Caribbean Women towards a Sustainable Maritime Industry.

The 26th Annual Meeting of the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC) was held on June 28-30, 2023, in Antigua.
The central theme of this Meeting was "Caribbean Ports at the Crossroads" and focused on issues such as port legislation, trade facilitation, digitalization and capacity building.

The General Ports Administration of Argentina organized the, held in collaboration with the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The 30th Latin American Congress of Ports (AAPA Latino) was held from November 28 to 30 in Santos, Brazil. The program included an academic agenda that addressed many relevant topics of the port & maritime trade, networking activities; and the presentation of the 2022 AAPA-CIP Port Industry Award of Excellence and the Maritime Award of the Americas.

The 15th edition of the Port Maritime Congress and the 23rd International Congress on Maritime Law were organized by the National Port Commission (CPN for its acronym in Spanish) of Guatemala and the Ibero-American Institute of Maritime Law which were held on November 2-4, 2022.
Organized annually, the Congress seeks to strengthen the capacities of the national and international maritime port community working in the sector in cross-cutting areas, through the exchange of knowledge and experiences with invited experts for the development of the topics.

The 2022 International Maritime and Port Forum of the Mexico International ISPS Network, addressed the prospects for international trade and cruise tourism, following the health emergency, which has generated a distortion in maritime transport, food and fuel supply. Progress in the implementation of the ISPS Code in the face of new threats was also discussed, as well as cybersecurity in the context of digital transformation.

The Port Authority of A Coruña, held the 5th International Congress on Industrial Security in Ports on May 18 and 19, 2022 in A Coruña, Spain.
During the Congress, speakers discussed the evolution of ports in their role as energy nodes and in the decarbonization of logistics chains, the new security challenges in this era of digital transformation and the need for a high level of coordination between the maritime and land part to prevent and respond adequately to port emergencies.
In addition, port professionals citizens from the CIP-OAS Member States attended the Congress.
The event Congress: 30 years of the Superintendency of Transportation: Institutional Review for the Country's Port Development, organized by the Superintendency of Transportation and the Externado University of Colombia, was held on November 25 and 26, 2021. This event took place virtually through the ZOOM platform in Spanish.

The 5th edition of the Port-Maritime Congress was organized by the National Port Commission (CPN for its acronym in Spanish), Guatemala, which was held on November 23 and 24, 2021.
Organized annually, the Congress offered an international platform for dialogue on trends in international maritime trade and its impact on the Central American subregion. Experts and decision makers spoke on various topics including competitiveness, security, technological innovation, sustainable management and facilitation of trade through an effective logistics chain, among others.

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo extended an invitation to Jorge Durán, Chief of the Secretariat (S/CIP) as guest lecturer and expert in the Masters on Logistics Management of Ports and Customs on November 21, 2021.
The Program offers courses on relevant subjects such as: International Trade; Modern Port Management; Economic Integration, Comercial Treaties and Rules of Origin; Maritime Law; Technology and Customs Systems; among others.

Trans-Port 2021, VII Congress and Exhibition of the Maritime-Port Industry for Latin America, organized by FISA, Chile, made decisive progress in identifying the various markets that allow projecting the development of this sector, which contributes to the economies of the countries of the region, convening Chilean and Latin American entrepreneurs, suppliers and authorities in an ideal instance to exchange knowledge, experiences and technologies required by the sector.
At Trans-Port, exhibitors were able to experience the power of face-to-face interactions with decision makers in the sector with networking opportunities to update the knowledge of all professionals linked to the industry by exchanging experiences in this and other matters.

The "Virtual Dialogue: Equity Responsibility of All", held on October 20, 2021, was organized by Portmujer, International Network of Port Professionals in Pro of Gender Equity.
The purpose of the discussion was to analyze the importance of the involvement of all actors and decision makers in gender equality focused on the port logistics sector.

The LATAM Ports Virtual Forum, organized by RDN Global, was held on August 3, 4 and 5. This high-level event focused on promoting port infrastructure projects with the participation of public entities and authorities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, as well as special guests, private companies, regional and international investors.
The LATAM Ports Virtual Forum sought to address the following aspects:
- Opportunities in maritime and river infrastructure in the region
- New projects amid the current pandemic and its potential
- Current Investor interest in the sector in the region

The “Virtual Roundtable on Women in Maritime and Port Security” was hosted by the OAS Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) and the UK Government.
Less than 30% of onshore maritime-related positions world-wide are held by women. In an effort to raise awareness and enact change in this matter, the roundtable highlighted success stories and challenges in the maritime field and provided an enriching discussion on the role of women in the maritime and port security sector.

The Webinar in Spanish “2020 Balance and Future Perspectives for the Port Industry in Latin America” was hosted by the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), CIP Associate Member.
The objective of the Webinar was to close the year with a balance on the challenges that the industry faced during 2020, having a first-hand perspective on how each sector plans to face the new international scenario. To this end, 17 specialists from 8 countries were been summoned and included the special participation of the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, Mauricio Claver-Carone.

The XII Virtual ISPS Forum 2020 "Challenges to Maritime Port Protection in Times of Pandemic (COVID - 19)" was organized by the National Port Authority of Peru, a member state of the CIP-OAS.
The purpose of the event was the exchange of information on port security, in accordance with the provisions of the international code for the protection of ships and port facilities, and taking as its central axis the threat presented by the COVID-19 pandemic to port activity

The 50th Annual General Meeting and Conference was organized by the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA), a strategic member of the CIP.
The purpose of the event was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of CSA in a virtual way and they took the opportunity to make a dedication to Mr. Fernando Rivera, since this was his last meeting as general manager, and to welcome the new general manager Milaika . Capella Ras.

The conference "The Caribbean Maritime Industry at the Nexus of Climate Change & COVID-19," was hosted by Alixum International Ltd., a procurement specialist in the Caribbean region.
The conference included high-level speakers such as: Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President, World Maritime University; Oded Breier, VP of Marketing, Israel Shipyards; Mona Swoboda, Program Manager, Inter-American Committee on Ports; Bogdan Stefanescu, Team Leader, Green Economy and Resilience; Vivian Rambarath-Parasram, Director, Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre - Caribbean; and Darwin Telemaque, Manager, Antigua & Barbuda Port Authority.
The purpose of this digital symposium was to bring together industry leaders, business experts and active members of the Caribbean maritime sector to explore opportunities for progress and development together during this critical time. Furthermore, the specific topics expanded on by each speaker included: Maritime Security Challenges After COVID-19; The Other Global Crisis: Climate Change and the Maritime Sector; Key Aspects of Port Resilience in Crises; Fighting Climate Change in the Caribbean: A Collaborative Effort; Climate Action in the Maritime Domain; and Caribbean Ports at the Crossroads: Managing Change in a post-COVID-19 Environment.

The conference "Ports and COVID-19," which was hosted by Duarte and Morales, a consulting boutique specialized in projects of infrastructure, project structure, predictive analytics and project management, achieved a reach of 350 participants from 23 countries around the world. The conference included high high-level speakers such as: Ricardo Sánchez, Senior Economic Affairs Officer, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Division, CEPAL; Jorge Durán, Chief of Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP); Robert W. West, Senior Economist, Duarte & Morales; and Rodolfo Sabonge, Ports Senior Consultant, Logitrans.
The purpose of said forum was to analyze the reality of ports during and after the pandemic. Furthermore, the specific topics expanded on by each speaker included: the post-covid global economic environment and the relationship with international trade; reactions and measures by national port authorities and governments as well as the next steps to be taken post-pandemic; the effect of COVID-19 on the forecast of vessel growth and how this situation impacts the balance of port concession contracts between ports and governments; and the impact on maritime trade routes and the impact on port operations in the Region and the Panama Canal.
This conference, which was held through a digital platform, proved to be an initiative that was welcomed and promoted cross-sector collaboration between governments and the private sector to share insights and best practices in times of great uncertainty. More importantly, it sets an example of resilience and an effort to share relevant information that can be used in benefit of the port community.

WISTA hosted their 2019 International AGM and Conference in Grand Cayman. The conference program included workshops addressing global market trends, insight from industry leaders, evening networking socials with global decision makers, excursions and skill development opportunities. Subject matter experts shared successful practices on sustainable oceans, and clean and green technologies, among others. Topics addressed included: IMG GloFouling Partnerships, Business Negotiation in a Global World, Empowering Women in the Maritime Community – Diversity and Gender Bias, IMO 2020 and Beyond and much more.

The National Port Commission of Guatemala invites port and maritime industry representatives to the XII Port Maritime Congress that will take place in Guatemala City. The event will be a unique forum in which congressmen, specialists and lecturers of recognized trajectory will share their experiences and exchange best practices with the private sector. XXXIX Central American Isthmus Port Meeting (REPICA)
Organized by the Central American Maritime Transport Commission (COCATRAM), along with the Port Authority of Belize, the XXXIX Central American Isthmus Port Meeting (REPICA) will be held in Belize City. The objective of the event is to promote the exchange of ideas and experiences through the discussion of port challenges related to port management and operations, as well as other related aspects. The event is addressed to Port Managers and Administrators, Representatives of Ministries of Transport, Port Authorities and Companies, among others. Some of the topics in the agenda include: Mobility and Logistics Policy in Central America, Strengthening Environmental Port Management in Central America, Multilateral Agreement on Search and Rescue, Impact of Ballast Water Convention in Ports, and The Role of Women in the Port Industry, among others.
